Vernissage: "The PURPLE PATH, a region in Europe. With works by Uli Aigner and Peter Weibel"
with Uli Aigner and Elisabeth Schweeger (Director of the European Capital of Culture Bad Ischl Salzkammergut 2024)
in the castle church of Chemnitz

The Austrian artist Peter Weibel (1944-2023) shaped media art for decades and was head of the ZKM | Centre for Art and Media Karlsruhe for a long time. In 2010, he developed an artistic examination of the history and development of Europe with the video work "Europa - Ein Umschreibeprogramm".

Uli Aigner, whose large-format works "Items 3501" and "3502" are located in front of the Alte Dampfbrauerei in Lößnitz, has been working on an ongoing porcelain project for years. Each of her approximately 12,000 vessels to date bears an engraved number, is glazed, fired and becomes part of a larger artistic context. Aigner was also commissioned by the Friends of the Cultural Region Chemnitz 2025 e.V. to create a porcelain vessel for each of the 38 municipalities involved in the PURPLE PATH. The works, which are currently on display in the region's town halls, will be brought together for the exhibition and installed in Chemnitz Castle Church.

Elisabeth Schweeger will give a sermon at the opening.

An event organised by Friends of the PURPLE PATH e.V. in collaboration with the St. Petri Castle Church Parish of Chemnitz, Kulturkirche 2025 and the Friends of the European Cultural Region Chemnitz 2025 e.V. with the support of Tourismusverband Erzgebirge e.V.

The exhibition is open until 20 September 2026
Tue-Fri: 2-5 pm, Sat-Sun: 1-5 pm
Admission free

The event is part of the programme of the tour Unterwegs mit der Künstlerin Uli Aigner, but can also be visited independently of the tour.
